Hello, I'm
Ed Bosher
I'm a fractional CTO for founders building technical products. Senior engineering judgement, plus the hands-on work to ship — strategy, hiring, architecture, and code.
/ Sound familiar?
If any of these landed, we should talk.
-
Everyone's pressuring you to 'do AI' and you want to actually move the needle for your customers or your team, not just ship a chatbot.
-
Growth's been good, but you haven't put real thought into how customer data is secured. Lately it's the thing keeping you up at night.
-
Hiring is the most important thing you'll do this year, and you'd rather not learn it on the job. You want someone who's already done it many times over.
-
You promoted your tech lead into a management role and they're struggling. They need someone who's done it before to lean on, and that someone can't be you right now.
-
Your prototype works, but you're not sure it'll survive the next 10× of users. You don't have time to find out the hard way.
-
The team's bigger now and the 'just push it' workflow that got you here is starting to break. Nobody's had the time to set up what should replace it.
/ Services
Four ways I help founders ship and scale technical products.
Hands-on building & architecture
Embed as a senior engineer for a stretch — design the system, ship the product, untangle the tech debt.
- System design and tech selection
- Architecture review and migration plans
- Hands-on prototyping and feature delivery
- Tech-debt audits and refactor strategy
Hiring & team setup
Build the engineering team and the rituals that let it ship without you in the room.
- Role definition, JDs, and sourcing strategy
- Technical interview loops and rubrics
- Sprint cadence, on-call, and code-review norms
- Engineering metrics and dev-environment setup
Engineering leadership coaching
1:1s with founder-CTOs and first eng leads — grow into the role faster.
- Weekly 1:1 coaching sessions
- Frameworks for hiring, planning, and stakeholder management
- Sounding-board for hard technical and people calls
- Org-design help as the team grows
Strategy & due diligence
Roadmap shaping, build-vs-buy calls, and written technical reports for boards and investors.
- Technical roadmap and prioritisation
- Build-vs-buy and vendor selection
- AI/ML integration choices
- Written tech-DD reports for investors and acquirers
/ How I work
Three engagement shapes — pick the one that matches where you are.
Embedded retainer
1–2 days a week, ongoing. Behaves like a part-time CTO — embedded with the team, present in the rituals, accountable for outcomes.
- Best for founders without a senior eng leader in seat
- Minimum 3-month commitment
- Mix of strategy, hiring, and hands-on work
Fixed-scope project
A defined deliverable over 2–6 weeks: architecture review, hiring sprint, due-diligence report, or a specific build.
- Clear scope, clear price, clear deadline
- Best for one-off needs or a focused intervention
- Written deliverable at the end
Advisory hours
Pay-as-you-go calls for founders who need a senior peer to think out loud with — no retainer, no minimum.
- Best for founder-CTOs with a sounding-board gap
- Book ad-hoc or set a regular cadence
- Async follow-up notes when useful
/ Experience
A brief overview of my career
Chief Technology Officer
Arena Entertainment
Reorganized engineering at a crypto/web3 entertainment company — doubled the team in three months, split a monolith into four domain teams, and ran a third-party white-box security audit. Introduced centralized auth, device management, and continuous attack-surface monitoring.
VP Engineering
ExpressVPN
Joined as an IC and grew the Marketing Technology org to 200+ engineers across 15 cross-functional teams. Designed and shipped global web infrastructure serving 3M+ daily uniques at 99.995% availability, and was hands-on mitigating bad-actor and state-sponsored threats. Established the platform and data engineering orgs.
Co-founder & CTO
Bitgame Labs
Lead architect, developer, and PM for the world's first cryptocurrency live sports betting site — including the crypto payment stack. Reached profitability within months, grew engineering to 70 across HK, Poland, and Ukraine, and migrated a monolith onto a Kubernetes/cloud-native stack of 40+ services on AWS and GCP.
Technical Director
Digital Butter
Technical lead for an agency delivering websites and portals to SMBs and large enterprises, managing teams in Hong Kong and Ukraine. Key in pitching and winning contracts with the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission and Diageo Asia, and automated software delivery and patching with Chef.
